3 Dresses: Plus Size Maxi Dresses

Let’s talk about maxi dresses and the impact they have had on my life.

Summer has always been a conundrum for me. I love wearing sandals and feeling the sun on my face, but I hate being hot and suffering through countless mosquito bites. There is a bit of push and pull.

Similarly, I hate shorts because my thighs touch so keeping the shorts in their correct place is impossible for me if I plan on walking. Yet I love sundresses, but my behind is so big, they tend to ride up in the back and cause an over-exposure situation.

So what is the answer?!?! How is a curvy girl like me supposed to be comfortable in these fun summer months??

The answer is maxi dresses. The answer will always be maxi dresses. The are long and comfortable and cool and versatile. They serve purpose at a barbecue, they serve their purpose while out and about shopping, and they serve their purpose at a more formal event.

Now I got my latest favorite maxi dress at Shein.com. If you are in the market for a cute, comfortable, plus size maxi dress, I suggest you start there. Not only do they have a great variety of clothes, but the price is right, y’all! The prices are insanely reasonable. I got my yellow maxi for $36.99, including shipping and handling! And even now, you can get $5 off using the link below. The quality of the dress was great, and every time I wear it, even strangers approach me to tell me how cute I look!

Now, I am relatively tall. I stand at 5’8, so most maxis are the right length for me, straight off the rack. For my short sistas, maxis may be more tricky. My big sister is short, and every time I wear a maxi around her, I’m met with “That’s so cute!! Ugh that wouldn’t work on me because I’m too short!” I hear you, and my answer is this– get yourself a great tailor, or at least, a great package of two-sided tape. When I have needed a hem in a pinch, two-sided tape has always been a great fix. Of course, the optimal, long-term solution would be to get a great tailor because at the end of the day– we all need tailoring on our clothes in some way. For instance, my waist is smaller, but my bust and hips are larger. For most tops I get, if they do not have stretch, are too big in the waist and shoulders yet tight in the bust and hips. I have to order big and have my tailor take it up in the waist.

So there it is– a tip to “maxi-mize” your summer (I couldn’t resist). Do you like shorts? Talk to me in the comments below. I want to wear a romper so bad– do you have any tips for keeping shorts from riding up?

Here are three maxi dresses (including my yellow number pictured above) that are capturing my attention from Shein!
